HOMEWORK | |
Recommended homework problems are listed on the syllabus. Symbiotic student interactions are encouraged; parasitic interactions are discouraged. In this section, no homework will be collected.
QUIZZES | |
On five Fridays (3 November, 10 November, 17 November, 1 December and 8 December), a short (approximately fifteen-minute) quiz will be given at the beginning of class. Each quiz will be worth 25 points. On each quiz, at least half of the points will be taken verbatim from the recommended homework.
EXAMS | |
There will be two in-class exams, the Mid-Term on Tuesday, 21 November 00, and the Final on Monday evening, 18 December 98. In general, the exam will be graduated---the first question being easiest, the last, hardest. Each exam will be worth 100 points.
MAPLE LABS | |
There will be four or five Maple labs. Labs for section B08 meet 9am Wednesdays in SH 306. There will be no labs the week of Thanksgiving Break. Each Maple lab will be worth 25 points. The format of these reports is described on the web. For this section, your physical participation in Maple Labs is required. You will not be given credit for a lab report if you did not attend the lab.
GRADING | |
Of the five quizzes given, the four highest grades will count. Hence the total value of the quizzes is 100 points. Also the four highest Maple lab grades will count. So the total value of the Maple labs is also 100 points. A grand total of 400 points is available in the term. Grades are based on a floating scale; the scale is based on the difficulty of the questions/assignments. The maximum number of points required for an A is 360; for a B, 320; for a C, 280. Final letter grades will be assigned based on the total number of points earned, with some consideration given to consistency, progress in the course, etc.
MISSED QUIZZES, MAPLE LABS AND EXAMS
In general no make-up quizzes or tests will be given, and late Maple labs will not be accepted. A grade of zero will be recorded for all missed work. Rare and unusual circumstances, however, will be considered.
