Glossary
Method of Least Squares: A method of finding a line of "best fit" to a set of data by minimizing the sum of
squares of the errors (also called the residual values).
Least Squares Regression Line: The line of best fit resulting from using the method of least squares.
SSE: Sum of Squared Errors, or the sum of the all of the squared residuals.
Method of Least Absolute Deviations: A method of finding a line of "best fit" to a set of data by minimizing the sum of absolute values of the errors.
Least Absolute Deviations Regression Line: The line of best fit resulting from using the method of least absolute deviations.
Error or Residual: The vertical deviation between a data point and a fitted line.
SAE: Sum of Absolute Errors, or the sum of the absolute values of all the residuals.
