Power Transformations

Power transformations are used to transform non negative measurements. They consist of raising each measurement to the same power p, where p is a real number. That is, we analyze the transformed variable x=yp. If p=1/2, x is the square root of y; if p=2, x is the square of y; if p=-1, x is the reciprocal of y; and if p=0, x is defined to be the natural logarithm of y.

In this lab, you will explore the effect of power transformations on data distributions.
