Thirty years of Study Groups: the Free Boundary between Mathematics and Dollars

This informal talk will comprise a very brief history of Study Groups over the years with an emphasis on the intellectual excitement that is the stable cornerstone of the activity. However, as IP (Intellectual Property) and money pressures grow and grow, "second generation" Study Groups are starting to appear and they can create stability problems. The main purpose of the talk is to stimulate some lively discussion of this evolution.
