Week 1
In Calculus II, the students do the
following:
- Area as the limit of a sum (pg. 261) Section 4.1
- Summation Notation (sigma notation, basic rules for sums)
Section 4.1
- Area Using Summation Formulas
- Reimann Sums (pg. 267) Section 4.2
- The Definite Integral (pg. 268) (parts of definite
integral; integrand interval of integration; lower and upper
limits of integration) Section 4.2
- Area as an Integral (pg. 271); Distance as an Integral (pg.
272) Section 4.2
- Properties of the Definite Integral (pg. 274)
In Physics II, the students do the
following:
- Electric Charge Ch. 22, Section 1
- Conductors and Insulators Ch. 22, Section 2
- Conservation and Quantization of Charge (intro to components of an
atom) Ch. 22, Section 3
- Coulomb's Law (pg. 613) Ch. 22, Section 4
- Electric Field and Electric Forces (pg. 616-617)
- Electric-Field Calculations (linear charge density, surface charge
density, and volume charge density)
- Electric Field Lines
Links:
- Immediate Connections:
- Integrals such as those in Examples 22-10 and 22-11 on pgs. 686-687
(University Physics) can be better understood
- Long Range Connections:
- The electric field is the limit of the electrical force
over the test charge as the test charge approaches zero
- The direction of the electric field at any point is tangent
to the electric field line through that point.
Terms used
in this week are explained for you.
Examples for
this
week
are also given.
