Ten minutes of each lecture will be devoted to an individual (not group)
open book, open note quiz. The quiz has two purposes:
- Diagnostic The first purpose is to assess, for
both you
and me, your
knowledge of previous material. For this reason
there will be one question which requires a good understanding of
previous material.
- Motivational The second purpose is to motivate you
to come to class and to read the material for the upcoming
lecture. For this
reason, there will be one question on the reading you are supposed to
do for this
day's lecture.
Since the first question on the quiz is diagnostic in nature, you
will get full credit (10 points) whether you give the correct answer
or not.
I will use these questions to see if the class as a whole is getting the
ideas. You should use them to identify areas where your understanding
is weak.
The second question will be factual in nature and based on the
assigned reading. If you do the reading, you should be able to answer
it. Therefore, it will be graded (out of 10 points) and the grade
counted.
To help you diagnose where you need to improve, I will
go over the quiz solution immediately after the quiz.
The lowest quiz score will be dropped.
