Printing PDF Files

SAS OnlineDoc with PDF Files contains Portable Document Format (PDF) files that can be used in conjunction with Adobe Acrobat Reader to produce printed copies of SAS software product documentation.

Upon selection of a book from the SAS OnlineDoc Version 8 with PDF Files table of contents, select a topic, or select the icon next to the topic (). Adobe Acrobat Reader opens and displays the PDF file for your selection. If you are using Netscape, a Save As window may appear, indicating that you need to designate Adobe Acrobat Reader as the application Netscape should use to open PDF files. See Special Instructions for Netscape Users.

To navigate and print a PDF file, select the appropriate icon or menu item from the Adobe Acrobat Reader toolbar or menu. Some browsers display the Adobe Acrobat Reader toolbar or menu in the right frame of the browser. For other browsers, the Adobe Acrobat Reader toolbar or menu appears in a separate window. Only the Adobe Acrobat Reader toolbar or menu can be used to navigate and print the PDF files.

Get Acrobat Reader Note:  Adobe Acrobat Reader version 4.0 or later is required to view and print PDF files. Download a free copy now if it is not already installed on your system.

Special Instructions for Netscape Users

If you are a Netscape user, a Save As window may appear the first time you try to open a PDF file. This means Netscape needs to know which application to use to open PDF files. Close the Save As window and follow these instructions to designate Adobe Acrobat Reader as the application Netscape should use to open PDF files:

  1. Determine the path to your system's installation of Adobe Acrobat Reader and write it down. It will be used in one of the following steps. If you have not already downloaded Adobe Acrobat Reader version 4.0 or later, do so now. Be sure to write down the path to where you install it.
  2. From the Netscape browser menu, select Edit Preferences.
  3. Click on the arrow to the left of Navigator to display additional topics.
  4. Select Applications.
  5. Scroll to and select Portable Document Format Edit.
  6. Click on the diamond next to Application in the Handled By portion of the window and type your path to Adobe Acrobat Reader followed by a space and %s.
  7. Select [Ok].
  8. Select [Ok] in the Preferences main window.
Now you will be able to open PDF files using Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Note: Adobe Acrobat Reader has an internal setting which controls the number of PDF files which can be opened at one time in a session. If you have opened multiple PDF files and encounter an error when attempting to open a another one, close Acrobat Reader and try again.
