Phase Field Formulation for Microstructure Evolution in Oxide Ceramics

Leslie Button, Corning, Inc.

Corning Workshop Documents

Brief Description

This problem in fact contains two problems: The simpler problem concerns how one should treat the interface boundary value problem for a model that has an obstacle potential (infinite barrier) in the phase field variables [1]. The main event concerns how to generate numerically (or otherwise) tractable equations to deal with a mixture of solutions and near-stoichiometric phases. There is a mixture of physical issues and numerical/mathematical ones involved.
